Lipid Synthesis Inhibitors
Herbicides which inhibit lipid synthesis are selective, post emergence herbicides applied for control of grasses. These herbicides are commonly called the "fops" and "dims" after the common names of herbicides such as fluazifop, diclofop, clethodim and sethoxydim. These herbicides prevent plants for producing lipids which are necessary for cell membranes. Some broadleaf plants can be injured by these herbicides. Resistance is both problematic and increasing.
The first symptoms noted on grasses are yellowing of meristematic regions with purple/pink coloration of older tissue. Tissue in meristematic regions (roots & shoots) becomes nonfunctional, turns brown, then decays.
